Pirate Side Scroller

A left-to-right pirate ship shooter built with Three.js. Sail across the open sea in landscape view while endless waves of enemies come at you from the right, getting faster and more frequent over time. Your cannons fire automatically, and you have three lives.

Intent

A simple, fun browser game that works equally well on a phone (held sideways) or a desktop. It has simple mechanics (no enemy attacks and no weapon upgrades; enemies only hurt you by crashing into you) and simple low-poly assets built in code. It is the left-to-right version of @kentcdodds/pirate-shooter, which scrolls vertically, and keeps the same gameplay.

Playing

  • Touch: drag anywhere to sail. The ship follows your finger's movement, so your thumb never covers it.
  • Desktop: move the mouse, or use the arrow keys or WASD.
  • P or Escape pauses, and M toggles sound.

Enemies:

  • Rowboats go down in one hit and sometimes arrive in V formations.
  • Sharks zig-zag up and down and take two hits.
  • Navy galleons are slow and take five hits.

Running locally

npm install
npm run dev

npm run build type-checks and builds a static site into dist/.

Hosting on Kody

Publishing the package serves the game as a Kody package app. src/app.ts renders the page, Kody compiles src/main.ts into the browser module, and public/ is served as static assets.
