Intent

Tiny zero-OAuth onboarding example: fetch Hacker News top story ids from the public Firebase HN API, hydrate each item, and return a slim list agents can summarize or link. Fork-friendly Step 2 starter for keyless HTTP packages.

What it does

  • Pulls current HN top-story ids from the public Firebase HN API
  • Hydrates each item into a slim { id, title, url, by, score, descendants } row
  • Bounds how many stories to hydrate via optional limit (1–30, default 10)

Prerequisites / setup

None. Public Firebase HN API only — no secrets, OAuth, or API keys.

Agents: see AGENTS.md for import paths and smoke checks.

Done when

  • getTopStories({ limit: 5 }) returns hydrated stories without error
  • You can fork and extend (filter by score, email a digest, etc.) without adding credentials
