AKSK Setup Planner

Intent

This package exists so anyone setting up the Agent Knowledge Starter Kit (AKSK) gets the right instructions the first time — no stale docs, no unnecessary steps, no mystery errors. Your coding agent calls it behind the scenes; you just get a setup that works.

Why AKSK?

Coding agents are good at writing code and terrible at remembering what they learned. Without a system, every session starts from zero: the same pitfalls get rediscovered, useful lessons evaporate when the chat closes, and instruction files bloat into unreadable messes.

AKSK fixes that with a small maintenance loop (see the Agent Knowledge Starter Kit repo):

  • Close out meaningful work into a structured session bundle (evidence, not lore).
  • Distill only the durable lessons into a curated repo knowledge layer.
  • Prune the layer over time so it stays small and high-signal.

The result: a repo that gets smarter the more agents work in it, while day-to-day code stays untouched. It works with the assistants you already use (opencode, codex, Claude Code, and others) and pairs with OpenSpec and OpenWiki when you want spec-driven development and a maintained code wiki.

What this package does for you

Setting up AKSK has two scopes that the official docs present as one sequence — which is exactly where people go wrong:

  • New machine? You need the global setup (tools + shared skills, once per user).
  • New repo on a machine you already set up? You need only the per-repo setup.
  • Contributing to the kit itself? You need neither.

This package answers "which steps do I need?" for your situation, with versions checked live (never a stale copy-paste), exact templates your agent can write verbatim, and a second opinion on config files you paste in.

How to use it

You don't operate this package directly — your agent does. Just ask your agent something like:

  • "Help me install AKSK on this machine" (new machine)
  • "Set up AKSK in this repo" (already set up the machine)
  • "Check whether my AGENTS.md has the AKSK wiring" (paste the file in)

If your agent uses Kody, it will find this package by searching for AKSK, skills setup, or openspec setup, and call the right function for the job.

Prerequisites

Nothing on your side. Your agent needs access to Kody packages; live version checks happen automatically with a safe offline fallback.

How you know it's working

  • Your agent gives you a short, ordered list of steps instead of the full manual — with only the steps your situation needs.
  • Install commands carry current version numbers, not ones copied from a months-old README.
  • Pasted config gets a clear verdict: what's missing, and the exact block to add.
